Since arriving in San Diego our plans evolved to be slightly different then originally planned. Instead of traveling down through the Baja peninsula we decided to head to Pompano Beach Florida (via airplane). This way we could re-coupe and get ready for the next adventure! We’ve also put a lot of time into this new site and we’re excited to show it off over the next few weeks!

This trip will officially start in the beginning of April. We fly back to San Diego on the 5th and will pick up our bikes at our friend’s place. The bikes need a couple simple repairs and adjustments before we continue, so the first days will be busy with logistics and repairs. We will start riding from the beginning of the Adventure Cycling Pacific Coast route (going south to north) and begin to make our way towards Vancouver. Once we reach Canada we will catch a ferry ride up to Alaska and we plan to explore Alaska for a few weeks!

This trip will be a little different then the cross-country leg we completed in the fall. Both Devon and I are very excited to explore California, so we decided to take it slow! We will be halving our typical daily mileage in exchange for more down time to see the sights. I’ve also added a great deal of weight to my previously efficiently packed load in the form of a paraglider. The idea is to fly at as many spots as possible up the west coast. It’s a significant increase in weight but hopefully the flying will make it worthwhile. The first hills will certainly be a challenge.

Florida has been fun the last few months. We’ve both been pretty busy working and building this site. We have also designed a product for bike touring that we hope to launch on Kickstarter and this site at the beginning of April. For now, keep checking back for updates on our trip and for new stories from our guest bloggers. If you’d like to receive new post updates or sign up for our weekly newsletter please use the email box to the right and at the bottom of this page! I personally cannot wait to get back on the bike!

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!”
