The Kelty Salida 2 is a great entry level backpacking tent. This was our go-to tent before we upgraded to the Big Agnes UL 3 (check out our review). This tent is super affordable for a two person tent in this class and offers some great features.
The Salida 2 set up is fairly basic. The tent has two poles which cross a the top of the tented like any tent with this setup, it can be slightly awkward if you are in a rush. The rain fly goes on easy and only requires one stake to hold the vestibule open. One major advantage is the size of the vestibule. It has plenty of room to hold all of your gear and then some. The foot print of the tent also allows room for gear although it can be tight with two people and two packs. Included with the tent is a gear net that attaches to the ceiling which does help organize you lighter gear.
The Salida two is extremely durable and the build quality is good. However, the use of rugged materials does come with some added weight and this is certainly noticeable, especially compared to other tents on the market. Packed weight comes in around four pounds! Even though it is heavier it can be packed down relatively small with the use of a compression sack.
